By and large, its mostly safe. But it’s important to always be conscious of your surroundings just like any other location. There are more dangerous areas to travel, such as the green line west and green line south, however. It is about as safe as the Pink line, and the Red line at night.

The Chicago Midway Airport is technically open 24-hours, though Security checkpoints do shut down at night. If you’re already inside the Secure areas before closing time, you will be asked to move the public/pre-Secure area.

O’Hare Airport in known worldwide as a busy airport, in fact, is one of the busiest airports in the world. It is preferred for international flights, while Midway is better for domestic flights as it offers shorter lines.
It’s safe. Unless you have cancelled flights I don’t think they will allow you to just stay at the airport. Plus you want to go downtown after staying in an airport all night? Midway used to have a limit on how late flights can land or take off.

City Bus Public transit is available to and from the Airport and downtown San Diego on the Metropolitan Transit System’s Route 992, which stops at Terminals 1 and 2, and operates between 5:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends and holidays.

San Diego’s Coaster train runs daily between its southern terminus in Downtown San Diego and its northern terminus in Oceanside. The trip from one end to the other takes just over an hour with eight stops including its northern and southern points; Sorrento Valley is the only utilitarian stop not suitable for tourism.
Admittance to the park grounds is free. Once inside the Park, explore the lush gardens and trails. The Botanical Building and Timken Art Museum are always free.
Three (3) San Diego Trolley stations – 12th and Imperial, Park (12th) and Market and the Gaslamp Quarter Station (Fifth Avenue and Harbor Drive) serve Petco Park. All three Trolley lines-Orange, Blue and Green-provide direct service to and from the ballpark.
Edison Park is one of the safest Chicago neighborhoods. It sits quietly in the northwest of the city. However, Edison Park may seem a bit self-contained at first because it used to be a town at one point in time.
Leaving Midway
All taxis should have a working meter to calculate the fare based on time and mileage. Fares are based on traffic conditions, but an average fare from Midway to downtown Chicago is $35-40. For current fare information, please check the City of Chicago taxi passenger information website.
