The nearest to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum is on 10th Street between Pennyslvania and E Streets. A popular garage that never runs out of space (except possibly on major holidays) is the parking garage under the Ronald Reagan Building.
There are no Metros running TODAY, 6am-6pm, South Gosforth-Heworth, replacement buses running. Allow extra time for your journey.

The Smithsonian will reopen 10 of its museums throughout the summer, marking a full reopening of the Smithsonian since closing to the public in March 2020. These locations will open on a staggered schedule from June through August.
We highly recommend reserving advance timed passes to this extremely popular Smithsonian museum on the National Mall. You may obtain up to six (6) advance passes. Timed passes are always required on weekends, while during peak season (March – August), passes are required for entry before 1 p.m. every day of the week.
The building is quite odd and the eccentric collections contained within are well worth seeing. Strange that an Englishman who’d never visited America should start the endowment.

Do visitors need timed passes? No, all visitors will enter as walk-up visitors.

The Metro system is a short bus ride away from both Newcastle and Gateshead centres via Monument, Central and Gateshead Metro stations. A transfare ticket on the Metro system will allow transfer to any bus to complete your journey to Metrocentre.
