This is Sebago Lake, an enormous 28,771-acre, 316-feet-deep body of water—the second largest in the state, behind only Moosehead. Located just northwest of Portland, Sebago is also the source of clean, safe drinking water to one in six Mainers.

One of the more famous locations on Sebago Lake is called simply “The Sandbar.” This half-mile long stretch of clean fine sand is located 2 miles north of the boat launch at Sebago Lake Station on the western shore. It is barely more than 200 yards outside of Portland Water District’s 2-mile “No Bodily Contact” zone.
The region provides excellent year-round fishing for landlocked salmon, brook trout, splake, lake trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, perch, and chain pickerel. Stocking maintains most lake and pond fisheries for salmon and trout.
