A section of catwalks along the extremely popular Johnston Canyon trail in Banff National Park has been closed indefinitely after a routine engineering inspection deemed it unsafe. The engineers discovered damage to the footings of a section of the trail, so it’s closed indefinitely.
Plenty of folks take dawn/dusk photos at Moraine Lake, though you can’t venture beyond the lake shore alone (group-of-4 restrictions). With the lodge right along the lake, you also need to be respectful of people sleeping in the cabins. Lake Louise would be a great location for night photos since access is easy.
Get an early start:
If you visit between 6am and 7am, you should be able to get up to the Moraine Lake Parking lot before the road closes.
